Energy Monday talk series, introducing the topic of food waste and how different stakeholders are addressing the prevention and reuse of the €1.18 billion of annual edible food waste. In Denmark, we generate just under 13 million tons of waste every year. Of that, around 2.8 million tons is household waste. This corresponds to a good 20% of total waste generation. Denmark wastes 540,000 tons of food per year, this equates to 42 kilograms of food waste per year for a single family and 105 kilograms edible food for a family consisting of two adults and two children. Currently, the majority of food waste is still incinerated with energy recovery.
